Gun Dog Training in Boca Raton
Our Gun Dog Board & Train program builds working retrievers and hunting dogs from the ground up.
It’s designed for sporting breeds that need high-drive direction, field obedience, and reliable outdoor performance.
We focus on drive building, gun-shyness conditioning, whistle commands, steadiness to shot, marked retrieves, blind retrieves, and water work.
Three Levels of Gun Dog Training
Your dog starts at the level that fits their age and experience.
Gun Dog Puppy Head Start
This level introduces young dogs to the idea of retrieving.
Your puppy is introduced to birds, water, and gunfire, along with the right obedience commands.
The age requirement for this level is 13 weeks to six months.
Basic Retriever Training
In the basics program, your dog learns everything they need to be a good hunting companion.
Your dog learns to deliver the bird to hand, retrieve long land and water marks, and stay steady to the shot.
We can also introduce your dog to any hunting scenario you’d like.
Your dog will be collar conditioned to all obedience commands.
Collar conditioning uses an e-collar to reinforce commands, so your dog can move from on-leash work to reliable off-leash retrieving.
The basics curriculum includes:
- On-lead obedience (heel, here, sit, and kennel, meaning into or onto)
- Collar conditioning for the off-leash transition
- A conditioned retrieve (natural, marked, and forced retrieve)
- Introduction to the gun
- Introduction to live game
- Steadiness on marked ducks, geese, and pheasants
Advanced Retriever Training
This level is for dogs that have finished the basics program and are ready for higher-level hunt tests, or for dog owners who simply want a finished gun dog.
Dillon builds on your dog’s natural retrieving ability with both reward-based methods (marker and clicker) and force fetch, for a well-rounded, non-slip retrieve.
Handling and casting are taught in this phase.
Your dog learns to run blind retrieves, mark multiple birds, and work through more challenging concepts.
Program Length
Gun Dog training is a mandatory three months and can take up to five months.
Where Your Dog Stays
Your dog stays at our licensed facility, attached to a veterinary clinic, for the length of the program.
You’re still welcome to come by and see your dog during that time.

Gun Dog FAQs
How much will my dog be worked with?
As much as your dog needs.
Board & Train dogs do multiple sessions a day for a total of 1.5 to 3 hours of training, and sometimes more.
Will I receive updates while my dog is in training?
Absolutely.
We share photos, videos, and social media posts, and longer updates usually come weekly.
Can you accommodate my dog’s special diet?
Yes, we’re happy to handle special diets, raw food diets, and medication needs.
